Waterpump Service: Outboard

The waterpump impeller located in the lower unit of your outboard is responsible for pumping the lakewater through the engine to keep it cool. Over time the rubber impeller will lose efficiency and stop pumping the required amount of water. Once this happens you will have overheating and possibly engine damage. The service interval of the impeller is based on many factors, but can be anywhere from 1 year to as many as 3 years. Feel free to call if you are unsure of yours.

  • Remove prop and check for fish line
  • Drop lower unit and remove impeller
  • Replace impeller and necessary gaskets
  • Reinstall lower unit and prop
  • Run test, to check operation of impeller and lower unit shifting

++Waterpump service does not include changing the gear lube. If you would like a quote for this please feel free to ask++
